British film The King's Speech leads the way at this year's Bafta Film Awards, with Colin Firth nominated in the best actor category.

The film, which sees Firth play stuttering monarch King George VI, received 14 nominations.

Helena Bonham Carter is up for best supporting actress for playing his wife, Queen Elizabeth, who became the Queen Mother.

The King's Speech, which had a disappointing result at the Golden Globes when it won just one of its seven nominations, is also up for best British film.

Black Swan followed with 12 nominations, including best actress for Natalie Portman, while The Social Network, the story of the founding of Facebook, received six nominations.

They are considered an important indicator of likely Oscar success.
